Hosea

1.Historical background and purpose of the prophet:

Hosea evidently compiled this book during the early years of Hezekiah, and his ministry stretched from 755BC to about 710BC. When Hosea began his ministry, Israel was enjoying a temporary period of political and economic prosperity under Jeroboam II. Hosea's message reflects the terrible fascination of Israel with Baal worship. And, Hosea provides one of the most eloquent expressions of God's mercy.

2.What does this book show about the Character and Nature of God?

We can meet merciful and compassionate God in the Ch.8- "Oh how can I give you up, Israel?  How can I let you go?  How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows."

3.What does this book show you about God's redemptive plan for mankind?

In the phrase 14:4, the Lord says, "Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever." He we can find God is preparing Loving God instead of Justice & Judging God. And, His love was expressed in maximum when Jesus died for the mankind's redemption.

4.Personal application:

My love for God is very similar to the love of Gomer. Nevertheless I know how God want I love Him in every second, I'm so easily forget His love and go out seeking other love. Keep in mind one love is enough for me! God's love is big enough to cover all the other loves in the world.

5.Point of Passion Assignment

I want to help nonbelievers to know what God's love is. Then, my eyes should be forcused on the love of God always. If I love another lover, how I can say to others that I love my spouse?
