1.Historical background and purpose of the prophet:

Since the book includes no explicit time reference, it cannot be dated with certainty. It has traditionally been dated 835BC, when Joash was placed upon the throne at the age of seven and Jehoiada the priest functioned as the real ruler(2Ki 11:12). Since Joel does not mention idolatry, it may have been written after the purge of Baal worship early in the reign of Joash under Jehoiada the priest. This book develops the crucial theme of the coming day of the Lord(1:15 / 2:1,11,31/ 3:14,18) - a time of awesome judgement upon people and nations that have rebelled against God. But it is also a time of future blessing upon those who have trusted in Him.

2.What does this book show about the Character and Nature of God?

God likes our whole heartily repentance as the phrase 2:12,18 "That is why the Lord says, 'Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. ~Then the Lord will pity his people'"  God has mercy on us just when we repent whole heartily.

3.What does this book show you about God's redemptive plan for mankind?

In the phrase 2:32, we can get a hope that we will be saved. "But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, for some on Mount Zion in Jerusalem will escape, just as the Lord has said. These will be among the survivors whom the Lord has called.

4.Personal application:

God asks us to turn to Him, while there is time. How many times have I delayed my faith journey ?  I regard I have plenty time to turn to God. So, I can do something later, not now.
But, God orders that do it while there is time. Remind always that God does not wait until I'm ready to do something. God has already waited long time, so don't delay anymore and take action now !!

5.Point of Passion Assignment

I want to help nonbelievers to know and believe in God. Nonbelievers are always feel they are having much enough time for checking out God. But, time does not wait for human even one second!!  Persuade them God is waiting for them to turn to him just right now!!
